Caylon Umphrey

Caylon Umphrey, Administrative Associate, is a seasoned professional with over two decades of experience in entrepreneurship, business development, and community service. Joining Shepherd Elder Law Group in October 2024, Caylon brings a wealth of knowledge in operations and client relations, grounded in a diverse background that spans multiple industries.

Before transitioning to the legal field, Caylon built and successfully sold multiple businesses, including residential cleaning companies, a recycled plastic products venture, small business marketing services, and a direct sales business. This entrepreneurial journey allowed her to gain a deep understanding of business fundamentals, as well as the value of strategic planning and execution.

In addition to entrepreneurial experience, Caylon has served in various leadership roles. Notably, she was the Executive Director of New Hope Food Pantry, where her leadership was recognized by Olathe Mayor Bacon in September 2023, when the city proclaimed NHFP Month in honor of the organization’s community impact.

Caylon is also deeply committed to service and has volunteered her time with several organizations, including New Hope Food Pantry, OASIS English Tutoring for Nepali refugees, and the American Club Association. She also played a key role in developing and executing the SHBC Entrepreneurial Expo in partnership with the Kauffman Foundation’s Global Entrepreneurship Week is an event aimed at inspiring and empowering entrepreneurs in the Kansas City area.

A dedicated community member, Caylon has served on the boards of several local organizations, including K-State Research & Extension (Johnson County) and the Small & Home Business Connection. She has held leadership positions, including serving as Secretary, President, and Marketing Chair for the Small & Home Business Connection.

Outside of work, Caylon is a proud wife and mother to one son, as well as a “mom” to two Pomeranians. A Kansas City native, Caylon enjoys karaoke, is a devout Christian, and is a National Dart Champion.

Caylon’s diverse skill set, leadership experience, and commitment to service make her an asset both to Shepherd Elder Law and the broader Kansas City community.
